Sweet Honeytrap.
That's the first honeytrap we're fed in school. A sweet too good to be true lie packed as motivation. As kids we accept the idea because why wouldn't anyone want to imagine a life spent 'chilling' as soon as the report card came out?
But then 10th boards show up and suddenly the line changes:
“Okay, okay, this one is actually serious. Just focus on THIS exam, and then you can chill forever.”
So you grind, you sweat, you give up your TV time, your sleep, sometimes even your peace of mind because forever chill is just one step away, right?
Except it isn’t.
Because the second you step into 11th, the goalpost moves farther, again.
Bigger books, scarier teachers, scarier parents, scarier you. And the new mantra becomes:
“Just these two years, beta. Just crack this one board, this one competitive exam, and trust me, your life is SET.”
So you grind again. You tell yourself this is the REAL final level, and after this, you can finally flop on the couch of life. But surprise! Once you get into college, the story resets.
Now it’s,“Just finish your degree, then you’ll be free.”
Then it becomes,“Just get a job, just get married, just buy a house, just settle down…”
Every “just” keeps stacking up like a never-ending to-do list, and the “chill forever” moment never actually arrives.
And that’s when it hits you... this is the biggest honeytrap of all.
You’re lured with the promise of rest, peace and freedom… but the bait keeps moving further away. You keep running, hoping the trap will open into paradise, and maybe into some sort of nirvana... but really? it only tightens with every stage.
The truth is there is no "forever chill” after some milestone.
Life doesn’t pause and hand you peace just because you cleared a checkpoint.
If you’re waiting for that one moment when everything is finally done… you’ll be waiting forever.
So maybe the real hack is to stop chasing the trap. Stop buying the promise of tomorrow’s chill. Make space for your chill now... in small pauses, in things you love, in stolen hours that remind yourself that
you’re alive.
Because the promise of tomorrow’s rest? That’s the sweetest honeytrap of all.
